"Heartbeat" is the ninth episode of season one of the Australian television series, Dance Academy. It aired on 10 June, 2010 on ABC3 and on March 29, 2012 on TeenNick. The episode was written by Matt Ford.
Mocking her friends' obsession with teen popstar Myles Kelly, Kat creates a video of her dancing to one of his songs and then posts it on the internet. Much to her amusement, the video becomes a viral hit and catches the attention of Myles Kelly's management, who request her to be a backup dancer in his latest music video. During the shoot, Kat criticises Myle's costumes and choreography, claiming it degrades females, so he challenges her to assist him in creating new choreography and a different style for the music video. When Myles sees Kat's talent, he is extremely impressed with her work ethic and invites her to be a permanent dancer on his tour. Although a romance does blossom between them, Kat decides to not go, believing it is her time to make decisions for herself and not follow other people around. Meanwhile, Christian and Ethan become friendly rivals after Christian helped him on his hip-hop choreography. Ethan starts to view him as a potential threat and this culminates with the two dancing against one another in an attempt to win a place in choreographer Dana Strong's holiday workshop. Christian, in the end proves to be the stronger dancer of the two, however, knowing how much Ethan wants this opportunity more than him, he secretly rejects Dana's offer in favour of allowing Ethan to claim the win.
